The 2025 edition of the vibrant Kabowei Seigbein Cultural Festival commenced in grand style, as the revered Onise Fishing Ritual ushered in the week-long cultural celebration.

His Royal Majesty, Barr. Peremobowei Shedrack Erebulu, Aduo III, Pere of Kabowei Kingdom, officially launched the festivities by casting a symbolic net into the serene waters of Lake Onise; a sacred tradition that marks the opening of the fishing contest and the broader festival.

A ceremonial gunshot marked the start of the fishing contest, prompting a flurry of activity as local fishermen paddled swiftly across the lake in pursuit of the top prize — N200,000, proudly declared by the monarch.

This festival goes beyond the catch. It speaks to our heritage, unity, and collective pride,” HRM Aduo III remarked.

The Onise ritual is only the beginning. The coming days promise an exciting lineup of events showcasing Kabowei Kingdom’s cultural richness; from spirited canoe races and age-old wrestling bouts to mesmerizing masquerade displays, drumming, and traditional dance.
