The Ijaw People’s Development Initiative (IPDI) has urged the Inspector General of Police and the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) to take immediate action against individuals allegedly funding and spreading false narratives in the United States and the United Kingdom against key Niger Delta figures; Dr. Dennis Otuaro, the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP); High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo; and Chief Engr. Kestin Pondi, Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited.
In a statement signed by its National President, Comrade Ozobo Austin, IPDI accused certain disgruntled elements; motivated by personal ambitions and past involvement in oil theft; of orchestrating smear campaigns aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the three leaders. The group warned that such allegations, if unchecked, could harm the peace and stability of the Niger Delta region.
IPDI reaffirmed its support for Dr. Otuaro’s leadership, highlighting his achievements in the amnesty programme and his role in maintaining stability in the region. It also commended Tompolo and Pondi for their contributions to security and economic growth, particularly in combating oil theft and restoring the Niger Delta’s environment.
The group called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to disregard baseless claims against the trio, describing them as fabricated attempts by defeated oil thieves and political contenders. IPDI further urged security agencies to swiftly investigate and prosecute those responsible for the false allegations to serve as a deterrent to others.
