The general public has been alerted to a fraudulent scheme by individuals exploiting social media to impersonate prominent figures, creating fake accounts to deceive and defraud unsuspecting individuals.

This latest case involves a fake Facebook account created in the name of High Chief Dr. Dennis Brutu Otuaro, the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme. Discovered in the early hours of Thursday, January 9, 2025, the impersonation appears aimed at not only swindling individuals but also tarnishing Dr. Otuaro’s reputation.

Reports from Arogbo-Ibe Voice Reporters reveal that the fraudsters used Dr. Otuaro’s name and image to create a counterfeit account. The account has been used to post misleading content and engage unsuspecting individuals via Facebook Messenger, creating the illusion that these activities are directly from the Administrator.

Dr. Otuaro has urged the public to ignore all activities associated with this fake account and report it immediately. He emphasized that he operates only one authentic Facebook account, named “Dr. Dennis Otuaro,” which features his profile picture alongside a cover photo of him with a senior military officer. This official account has 1.4K likes and 2.1K followers. The fraudulent account, however, uses the name “Denis Brutu Otuaro.”

Dr. Otuaro advised social media users to report the fake account to prevent further fraudulent activities. He also reminded the public to remain cautious and verify the authenticity of accounts claiming to represent public figures.

This announcement underscores the need for vigilance in the digital space and collective efforts to curb online fraud. For inquiries or assistance, contact the Presidential Amnesty Programme’s communications team.
