Samsung Electronics co-CEO Han Jong-Hee passed away on Tuesday due to cardiac arrest, according to a company spokesperson. Han was 63 years old.

Born in 1962, he had been overseeing Samsung’s consumer electronics and mobile device businesses since 2022. That same year, he was appointed vice chairman and co-CEO of the company. His fellow co-CEO, Jun Young-Hyun, leads Samsung’s semiconductor division.

In an internal memo viewed by CNN, Samsung honored Han’s contributions, highlighting his 37 years of dedication to leading the company’s TV business to global success. As the head of Samsung’s electronics and appliances division, he played a key role in driving growth despite challenging market conditions. Samsung has not yet announced a successor, the spokesperson confirmed.

Just last week, Han chaired Samsung’s annual investor meeting, where he apologized for the company’s stock performance and cautioned about potential challenges in 2025 due to economic uncertainties in major global markets. He also stated that Samsung planned to pursue significant mergers and acquisitions this year to support its growth. Han acknowledged the difficulties of semiconductor-related acquisitions due to regulatory and geopolitical factors but emphasized the company’s commitment to achieving concrete results.

Han began his career at Samsung in 1988 after earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Inha University. Before leading the electronics and appliances division, he was responsible for the company’s display business.
