Governor Siminalayi Fubara has declared that Rivers State will ensure the late Chief Edwin Clark is duly honoured if the Federal Government fails to do so.

Leading a high-powered delegation on a condolence visit to the Clark family and the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) in Abuja, Fubara emphasized that his choice of white attire, instead of the traditional black, was a tribute to Clark’s impactful and fulfilling 97 years of life.

The governor clarified that his visit was on behalf of Rivers State rather than under the Ijaw platform, reaffirming the late leader’s deep connection to the state. Among his entourage were prominent figures, including Chief Rufus Ada George, Rt. Hon. Austin Okpara, Sen. Lee Maeba, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, and Prince Uche Secondus.

Describing Clark as a selfless leader dedicated to humanity, Fubara acknowledged his contributions to Nigeria’s history and recalled Clark’s unwavering support during his most challenging moments. He hailed the late elder statesman as a symbol of integrity and courage.

Fubara assured that Rivers State would accord Clark a befitting burial and, if necessary, take steps to immortalise his legacy. He urged the family to remain united, stressing that living in love and harmony is the greatest way to honour the statesman’s memory.
