The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he is confident that the long-running political dispute in Rivers State is close to a permanent settlement following a renewed intervention by President Bola Tinubu.

His remarks came as Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, pledged to carry out the wishes of his political mentor, Wike, including completing a road project initiated under Wike’s administration within a short timeframe.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja after inspecting ongoing projects in the FCT, Wike described President Tinubu as a stabilising force whose leadership was crucial in resolving the tensions between the executive and legislative arms of government in Rivers State.

“I am hopeful that, by God’s grace, this will be the last time the president will need to intervene in this matter, and that the people of Rivers State will no longer have to witness this kind of disagreement,” he said.

He stressed the weight of the president’s intervention, adding, “The president is the father of the nation, and when a father speaks, his children are expected to listen and take the necessary steps to promote peace and development.”

Commenting on the expected outcomes of the reconciliation, Wike expressed confidence that all parties would play their roles.

The House of Assembly will do what is expected of it, and I am equally confident that the governor will take the required actions to ensure that this peace endures,” he said.

According to the minister, restoring stability remains the overriding goal. “What matters most is that Rivers State moves forward. We appreciate Mr President for his persistent efforts in helping us reach this point of understanding,” he added.
