Rivers Crisis: Tinubu Brokers Peace as Wike, Fubara Hold Midnight Talks in Abuja
Signs of a possible breakthrough have emerged in the protracted political crisis rocking Rivers State following President Bola Tinubu’s direct intervention.
The President on Tuesday night convened a closed-door meeting in Abuja with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara; and other key political stakeholders from the state.
A Presidency source confirmed the development, describing the engagement as a “late-night meeting” aimed at easing tensions and charting a path toward stability in Rivers State.
Although details of the discussions were not officially disclosed, the meeting is widely understood to be focused on finding a “lasting solution” to the deepening rift that has paralysed governance and divided the state’s political structure for months.
President Tinubu’s intervention marks the most high-level effort so far to resolve the crisis, raising cautious optimism among observers that a political truce may be within reach.
As of press time, neither party has issued a formal statement on the outcome of the talks, but sources suggest further engagements may follow in the days ahead.
