Rivers Assembly Rejects Four Commissioner Nominees Submitted By Fubara
The Rivers State House of Assembly has rejected four commissioner nominees presented by the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.
The decision followed a screening exercise conducted by lawmakers on Monday during plenary at the Assembly complex in Port Harcourt.
After the screening, the House confirmed five out of the nine nominees submitted by the governor for appointment as commissioners and members of the state executive council.
Those confirmed by the Assembly include Tonye Bellgam, Professor Temple Nwofor, Dr. Peters Nwagor, Lekue Kenneth, and Sir Amairigha Edward Hart.
However, four other nominees were not approved by the lawmakers. Those rejected are Professor Datonye Alasia, Mrs. Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams, and Otonye TKD Amachree.
Governor Fubara had earlier forwarded the names of the nine nominees to the Assembly for legislative screening and confirmation as commissioners.
Before the screening exercise, the Assembly directed the nominees to submit the necessary documentation required for the process.
The directive was issued through a special government announcement signed by the Clerk of the House, Dr. Emeka Amadi.
According to the notice, the nominees were required to submit forty copies of their curriculum vitae, photocopies of their academic credentials, and proof of compliance with tax obligations as part of the documentation process.
The documents were to be submitted to the Office of the Clerk located within the Assembly Quarters of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The confirmation and rejection of the nominees form part of the constitutional process required for the appointment of commissioners who will serve in the state executive council.
