Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated ₦1 billion to support victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
The donation, made under the Renewed Hope Initiative, her flagship humanitarian programme was presented during a condolence visit to the state on Tuesday, August 5.
While receiving the First Lady at the Government House in Minna, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago commended the gesture, describing it as a timely intervention in the face of the humanitarian crisis triggered by the disaster.
Senator Tinubu handed over a symbolic cheque of ₦1 billion, alongside truckloads of relief materials intended for displaced families affected by the floods.
She expressed deep sympathy for the victims, stressing that the initiative aims to bring succour and renewed hope to vulnerable Nigerians across all regions.
“Our hearts are with the people of Niger State in this trying time. Through the Renewed Hope Initiative, we are committed to supporting those in need and ensuring that no Nigerian is left behind in the face of natural disasters,” she stated.
The donation is expected to be used for the rehabilitation of affected communities, resettlement of displaced persons, and provision of basic necessities such as food, shelter, and healthcare services.
Local officials and community leaders expressed gratitude to the First Lady for the impactful show of solidarity and urged other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate her act of compassion.
