Protesters Demand sack of UNIMED VC Over Alleged Corruption
The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) in Ondo, Nigeria, is currently embroiled in controversy, with protesters demanding the removal of Vice Chancellor Prof. Adesgun Fatusi. The Coalition of Ondo State Indigenes Against Corruption (COIAC) organized a protest at the Ondo state governor’s office in Akure, alleging corruption and mismanagement under Fatusi’s leadership.
Protesters claim that the university is on the brink of bankruptcy due to Fatusi’s administration, accusing him of financial mismanagement and high-handedness. They emphasized that the institution, which is a source of pride for Ondo State, has deteriorated significantly. Feyi Emmanuel, the protest leader, highlighted concerns about the financial status of UNIMED, alleging that the majority of its staff are non-indigenes and that the university council members are primarily contractors.
In response, UNIMED’s spokesperson, Mr. Isaac Oluyi, dismissed the allegations as baseless, attributing them to detractors with limited understanding of university operations or specific knowledge of UNIMED.
The situation calls for an investigation into the financial and administrative practices at UNIMED to address the concerns raised by the protesters.
