Pro-Wike supporters hijack Secretariat deny entry into offices

Reports indicate that the political faction loyal to Nyesom Wike in Rivers State is mobilizing youths from each ward, offering them cash incentives, to block access to council Secretariat and disrupt official duties

Sources have informed that while Fubara aims to swear in the local government chairpersons, Wike’s group is working to prevent these officials from entering the Secretariat. Concerns are growing about a potential escalation of political tensions in the state, particularly with the upcoming swearing-in of elected local council leaders.

On Saturday, the state police confirmed two explosions that occurred during the local government elections. The first blast hit the All Progressives Congress (APC) Secretariat on Aba Road around 3:00 AM, causing significant damage and leading to a security building fire. The second explosion took place at the Obio/Akpor Local Government Secretariat about half an hour later, reportedly caused by an object thrown from a vehicle.

The police dispatched their Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Anti-Bomb Squad teams to investigate the incidents. The situation is further complicated by former militant leader Asari Dokubo, who has publicly backed Governor Fubara and criticized Wike. Dokubo accused Wike of using military force against him and vowed to retaliate if provoked, stating, “Nigeria cannot surrender to Wike,” and threatened to shoot down helicopters if necessary.

Dokubo dismissed Wike’s influence, asserting that without his current position, Wike would be powerless.
