Rivers State Commissioner for Information, Joe Johnson, responded on Monday to accusations by the Chairman of the House of Assembly Committee on Information, Enemi Alabo-George, who alleged that Governor Siminalayi Fubara was obstructing legislative processes.

Johnson countered these claims, stating that the Assembly had repeatedly ignored official communications from the governor despite multiple attempts to engage with them. He cited video evidence showing government representatives delivering official documents, which he said lawmakers deliberately refused to acknowledge. He also noted that some of these correspondences had been publicly shared in national newspapers.

Regarding the recent allegations of gross misconduct against the governor and his deputy, Johnson clarified that the executive arm had not received any formal communication from the State Assembly on the matter. He emphasized that Fubara remained committed to peace, as demonstrated by his adherence to a court ruling mandating the transition of power from elected local government chairmen to Heads of Local Government Administrations.

Additionally, Johnson stated that the governor was prepared to implement the remaining directives issued by the apex court as soon as he received the Certified True Copy of the judgment. However, instead of cooperating, the Assembly responded with hostility, issuing ultimatums to both the governor and the state electoral commission. He described this move as an intentional attempt to create instability, adding that legal experts had questioned its validity.

The commissioner also condemned the Assembly’s recent call for an investigation into the Chief Judge, arguing that their actions demonstrated misplaced priorities that did not align with the interests of the state. He accused the lawmakers of pursuing a self-serving agenda rather than focusing on governance and the welfare of Rivers residents.
