Pro-Biafra Coalition Warns of Plot to Massacre Igbos

A coalition of pro-Biafra groups, COPROBIG, has claimed that the planned nationwide hardship protest from August 1-10, 2024, is a covert scheme to massacre Igbos.

This statement was signed by Uche Madu of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra and seven others on Sunday.

The coalition responded to Presidential Media Aide Bayo Onanuga, stating that blaming the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and the Ndigbo community will not halt the upcoming protest. They warned that the protest is a tactic to lure Igbo youths to their deaths.

To prevent a potential genocidal plot against Igbos during the protest, the coalition urged Igbos to continue their daily activities and avoid participating in the protest. COPROBIG declared that there would be no sit-at-home order in Biafra land during the protest week to avoid giving security agencies an opportunity to harm Biafrans.

The coalition’s statement followed the announcement of a nationwide protest by the Take It Back Movement, addressing the rising cost of living and hardship in Nigeria. TIB, through its solicitor Adegboruwa Ebun-Olu, sought protection from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Service for the protest.

However, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun requested protest organizers to provide specific details to ensure their protection. Recently, there have been numerous calls for and against the planned protest, with President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, governors, and ministers urging protesters to abandon their plans to demonstrate.
