The leadership of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Western Zone, unequivocally condemns the recent actions of certain unpatriotic individuals in Warri Federal Constituency, who, dissatisfied with the outcome of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s ward delineation exercise, have resorted to unlawful and dangerous measures intended to destabilise the region.
Credible intelligence, as uncovered by the Department of State Services (DSS), reveals that some Itsekiri elites were involved in the illegal procurement of high-grade weaponry, including over 50 AK-47 rifles, pump-action guns, and more than 3,000 rounds of ammunition. This alarming discovery is a grave indication of a plot to plunge Warri back into the dark era of violence and underdevelopment.
Ijaw youths have been closely monitoring these unfolding events and are deeply concerned about the direction this situation is taking. The Ijaw people are inherently peace-loving, law-abiding, and committed to the progress and development of our communities. Any attempt to provoke violence on our land is not only unacceptable but will be actively resisted.
We commend the DSS and all other security agencies for their proactive efforts in uncovering this sinister plot. We also demand that all individuals apprehended, as well as their sponsors, be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. This must serve as a strong warning and deterrent to anyone seeking to destabilise the peace and security of Warri Federal Constituency.
We are aware that this is not the first time such acts have been orchestrated. However, previous offenders have escaped justice due to foreign political affiliations and backing. We are equally aware of attempts to secure the release of those involved in this latest plot. Let it be on record that any such effort will be firmly resisted through all legal and legitimate means.
Furthermore, we commend INEC for upholding the Supreme Court’s judgment by conducting a fresh and transparent ward delineation exercise in Warri Federal Constituency. The process was inclusive, and all relevant stakeholders participated. We affirm that the resolutions agreed upon during the last stakeholders’ engagement should remain the only guiding framework in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Western Zone remains committed to peace, justice, and the continued development of the Warri Federal Constituency and the Niger Delta at large.
