The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide has called on the newly-appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), to expedite the resolution and implementation of the INEC field report on Warri Federal Constituency Wards and units delineation exercise in Delta State. In a press statement issued on October 29, 2025, and signed by the Spokesman, Amb. (Dr.) Binebai Yerin Princewill, the IYC urged INEC to suspend the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise in Warri Federal Constituency, citing a Supreme Court judgement that declared the existing Wards and units as fraudulent and non-existent.
The IYC expressed concern that INEC’s failure to resolve the issue would undermine the integrity of the Commission and the credibility of the 2027 general elections.

Press Statement
The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide presents its compliments to the newly-appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), and respectfully call on him to expedite the resolution and implementation of the INEC field report on Warri Federal Constituency Wards and units delineation exercise in Delta state, prior to the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
As a council, we beseech the Amupitan-led INEC to furnish an exemplary precedent by ensuring that the protracted Warri Federal Constituency Wards and units delineation issue in Delta State is finally laid to rest, thereby affording succour to the agitated citizenry. We take the liberty of calling upon the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to suspend the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise in Warri Federal Constituency, as such an arrangement is no longer tenable in light of the apex court’s pronouncement, which has declared that whatever existed in Warri Federal Constituency in the form of Wards and units was fraudulent and non-existent, hence the necessity for a fresh delineation exercise.
It is imperative that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) be seen to be upholding and obeying the law, and in this regard, the Amupitan-led INEC should demonstrate unwavering firmness and resolution in protecting and upholding judicial pronouncements, as exemplified by the Warri Federal Constituency Wards and units delineation exercise emanating from the Supreme Court.
The question that clamours for an answer is: On what basis is the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) embarking upon a continuous voter registration exercise in Warri Federal Constituency, notwithstanding the fact that the highest court in Nigeria, the Supreme Court, has voided such an arrangement in a landmark judgement?
The Independent National Electoral Commission must eschew any tendency to undermine the integrity of the Commission before the Nigerian people by pursuing a path of illegality, thereby forfeiting the credibility it has hitherto enjoyed amongst Nigerians. The Federal Government of Nigeria owes it to the Nigerian people to clarify whether laws are no longer meant to be respected in this country.
The Ijaw Youth Council is constrained to wonder what the fate of Nigerians would be come 2027 if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not been able to resolve a relatively simple issue in Warri Federal Constituency, despite a pronouncement by the Supreme Court. The abuse of the Supreme Court judgement on the Warri Federal Constituency Wards and units delineation exercise has reached a crescendo.
It is our fervent belief, as a council, that the newly-appointed and inaugurated Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, will uphold the supremacy of the law by doing the right thing in Warri Federal Constituency, and forthwith implement the INEC field report. INEC, under the leadership of Amupitan, should embark upon its mandate by addressing and resolving the Warri Federal Constituency Wards and units delineation issue, as we will not brook any attempt to distort or disregard the law.
Signed.
Amb (Dr) Binebai Yerin Princewill,
Spokesman,
Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide.
