President Tinubu Pledges to Address Niger Delta Neglect at Stakeholders’ Summit
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his dedication to addressing the longstanding neglect of the Niger Delta region through his Renewed Hope Agenda. The President conveyed this commitment during the Niger Delta Stakeholders’ Summit 2024, held in Port Harcourt.
Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu emphasized that the summit, themed “Renewed Hope for Sustainable Development of the Niger Delta Region,” signifies a pivotal moment for the region.
“This administration brings renewed hope and prosperity, and I believe this is the season we have been waiting for. It is our time to shine. To achieve lasting solutions, we must overcome disunity. Unity among the people of the Niger Delta and the entire nation is not just a choice but a necessity. Through our shared vision, we can overcome the obstacles before us,” said Akpabio.
He underscored the administration’s commitment to the development of the Niger Delta, highlighting the prioritization of the East-West Road. “The National Assembly, fully represented here today, will do everything in its power to ensure the completion of this crucial road,” Akpabio added.
Moreover, he announced that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project would commence simultaneously from Lagos and the Niger Delta, ensuring the completion of the project from both ends.
Akpabio also pointed out the region’s potential for self-sustainability through its agricultural resources, particularly in rice production and fish farming. By focusing on these areas, the Niger Delta would not only meet its own needs but also contribute significantly to the nation’s food supply.
“The region should not be solely defined by its oil reserves but also by its agricultural achievements,” he concluded.
The summit marks a renewed focus on the comprehensive development of the Niger Delta, aligning with the President’s vision for a prosperous and unified Nigeria.
