At the capital city of Ondo state, Akure, a new wave of digital empowerment has begun to sweep through the State, as 500 young people from Akure and Owo officially kicks off a four-week intensive ICT training programme, which is a major leap toward equipping the next generation with 21st-century tech skills.

The training, flagged off by the State’s Government in partnership with the Nigerian-German Centre for Migration and Development (GIZ-ZME), followed a comprehensive one-day orientation aimed at familiarizing participants with the structure, expectations, and opportunities embedded in the programme.

Monitoring the unveiling sessions personally, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on ICT, Hon. Tomide Akinribido, could hardly hide his enthusiasm. “The level of energy and commitment these young people are bringing to the table is simply incredible,” he said.

“This is more than a training but it’s a launchpad for a future built on digital excellence.”

Hon. Akinribido also revealed the strategic rollout plan for other training centers: “Orientation and full training at the Ondo and Okitipupa centres will begin next month after Akure and Owo complete their sessions. This phased approach ensures better supervision and coordination across all centres.”

Speaking on the broader vision of the Governor Aiyedatiwa-led administration, Akinribido stressed the state government’s staunch dedication to building a digitally literate population.

“We’re not just scratching the surface. This government is committed to training more residents in cutting-edge areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Product Management, and Product Design. We’re preparing Ondo youth for global remote jobs and leadership in tech.”

This strategic ICT partnership signals a bold shift in the state’s youth empowerment narrative, one that recognizes that digital literacy is no longer optional, but essential.
