Poverty has eaten us up_ catholic bishop
Cardinal John Onaiyekan, former Archbishop of Abuja, has called for a review of policies to alleviate the current economic hardships in Nigeria. Speaking at a Marian Concert celebrating the 2024 feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, organized by the Madonna Choir of St. Charles Lwanga parish and other partner societies, Onaiyekan emphasized the need for good governance. He stressed that proper leadership, characterized by justice and fair distribution of resources, is essential for national peace. He criticized the disparity between the wealth of those in power and the struggles of ordinary citizens, urging a reevaluation of policies causing widespread pain and poverty. Onaiyekan prayed that the Queen of Peace, Mother Mary, would guide the nation towards harmony and prosperity.
Rev. Fr. Thomas Edogbanya, the Parish Priest, encouraged Nigerians to maintain hope despite the country’s challenges. He highlighted that Mary faced numerous hardships but remained steadfast in her faith and hope in God.
