A political aide to Senator Olajide Ipinsagba, who represents Ondo North Senatorial District, has stepped down from his position, citing poor remuneration as the reason.

Tunbosun Awe, who served as the ward liaison officer for Isowopo Ward II in Akoko North East Local Government Area, tendered his resignation in a public letter shared in Akure, the state capital. He revealed that his monthly salary was just ₦20,000, an amount he said does not reflect the country’s current economic conditions or the recently proposed national minimum wage of ₦70,000.

“This decision follows the continued payment of ₦20,000 as monthly salary—an amount that falls significantly short of present-day realities and the national minimum wage,” Awe stated.

“Repeated attempts to discuss the possibility of a salary increase with you have failed. Notably, ₦20,000 is the same amount you paid me back in 2007 when I worked as your personal assistant.”

Awe also recounted his long-standing history with Senator Ipinsagba, dating back to 2006, when he served as secretary of the senator’s campaign team under the “Concept 2007” project. He noted that he also worked under Ipinsagba during the administration of the late Governor Olusegun Agagu.

Despite his disappointment over stagnant earnings, Awe expressed gratitude for the years of service and the opportunity to work closely with the senator.

Efforts to reach the senator’s spokesperson, Yinka Ajagunna, were unsuccessful.

However, a close associate of the senator, Bankole Akerele, criticized Awe for his public resignation, describing him as ungrateful. Akerele claimed that Awe had already shifted his allegiance to other political figures, which may have influenced his decision to resign, and argued that he should have shown more respect to his former boss.
