The Ondo State Police Command has stated that the three headless corpses discovered in a river between the Ore and Odigbo communities on Sunday were likely dumped there by unknown individuals from outside the state or possibly carried there by the river’s flow.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Mr. Olayinka Alayande, no one has come forward to report any missing persons or to identify the bodies since the incident was reported. He confirmed that the remains have been retrieved and deposited at the mortuary of the state’s General Hospital in Ore.
Alayande explained that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the area dispatched investigators to the site immediately after the report came in. Community leaders and relevant groups were also contacted to assist in identifying the victims, but no progress has been made.

“The DPO invited community leaders and other stakeholders, asking anyone with information to visit the hospital for identification. So far, no one has come forward. This strengthens our suspicion that the bodies may have been brought in from outside Ondo State and dumped in the river, or they were carried there by the current,” he said.
A youth leader in the area, who gave his name as Shileola, described the incident as deeply disturbing. He said he rushed to the scene after hearing the news, hoping to recognize the victims through their attire or any identifying features, but was unsuccessful.
The gruesome discovery has caused widespread fear in the affected communities. Residents who found the bodies alerted the authorities, and many believe the victims may have been killed for ritual purposes before being discarded in the river.
