In a massive show of force, the Federal Capital Territory police command has unleashed a staggering 4,200 policemen across Abuja, ahead of the planned nationwide protest against hunger and hardship.

The deployment, described as “visibility policing,” aims to prevent the protests from being hijacked by rogue elements and ensure public safety.

Explosive ordinance device experts have also been stationed at strategic locations, while raids will be conducted on identified black spots, uncompleted buildings, and shanties.

Stop-and-search operations, vehicular and foot patrols, and collaboration with sister security agencies will also be implemented.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, has issued a stern warning: “We will not tolerate destruction of public and private properties or loss of lives.

The right to protest will be respected, but violence and lawlessness will be resisted.”

With the protest scheduled to take place from August 1 to 10, 2024, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police emergency lines.
