Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has condemned the recent wave of killings in the state, labeling them as acts of genocide and alleging that the attacks are being orchestrated by sponsors.
At least 52 people, including children, lost their lives in coordinated assaults believed to have been carried out by suspected herders on March 28, 2025. The attacks affected communities in the Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas, along with surrounding regions.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, a visibly distressed Mutfwang attributed the violence to unidentified terrorist elements. He emphasized that the attacks appear to be part of a larger, organized effort to wipe out communities in Plateau State.

“I sincerely believe what is happening amounts to genocide carried out by terrorists,” he said. “The real concern now is identifying those behind these coordinated acts of terror. That’s where the security agencies must step in.”
He went on to stress the importance of uncovering the masterminds behind the violence, noting that such operations go beyond the capacity of ordinary individuals.
“This kind of destruction is clearly being financed or driven by external forces,” Mutfwang added. “I believe the security agencies will soon begin to collaborate more effectively to generate the intelligence needed to finally bring this to an end.”
