Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are currently holding an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, as efforts to resolve the party’s internal crisis gather momentum.

The high-level meeting, which is the third within the week, is taking place at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge and is focused on addressing lingering disputes, particularly issues surrounding the proposed national convention.

Factions Push For Resolution

The meeting is being led by the National Working Committee under Tanimu Turaki, alongside the Board of Trustees chaired by Adolphus Wabara.

Central to the discussions are ongoing reconciliation efforts between rival factions within the party, including the group led by Abdulrahman Mohamed.

While Turaki’s faction has expressed openness to reconciliation, the opposing camp, reportedly backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has also indicated willingness to resolve differences. However, it insists that the planned national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30 must proceed as part of the peace process.

Key Party Figures In Attendance

Prominent party leaders present at the meeting include former governors such as Babangida Aliyu and Ibrahim Shekarau, as well as former Minister of Information, Jerry Gana.

In his opening remarks, Turaki informed members that Seyi Makinde was unable to attend but sent his apologies, while the Governor of Bauchi State is expected to join the meeting later.

Hope For Party Stability

Turaki expressed optimism that the ongoing consultations and closed-door deliberations would lead to a resolution of the crisis and help stabilise the party ahead of upcoming political activities.

The outcome of the meeting is expected to play a crucial role in determining the future direction of the PDP, particularly as it prepares for future elections and seeks to rebuild unity within its ranks.
