The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the November 16, 2024, Ondo State election, Agboola Ajayi, has denied claims suggesting he is planning to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement released on Wednesday in Akure and co-signed by eight prominent PDP leaders in the state, Ajayi firmly rejected reports linking him to any coalition or alliance with the ADC.

The statement acknowledged that recent political developments and the actions of certain individuals had sparked confusion and speculation among party supporters. However, the party leadership moved quickly to dispel the rumours.

“As leaders of the PDP in Ondo State, we are committed to providing clarity and assurance to our members who have remained loyal to the party. There is no coalition or partnership with any political party at the state or national level,” the statement read.

It emphasized that the PDP remains solid, united, and focused on its mission to bring positive change to Nigeria and Ondo State through the democratic process.

Party members were urged to remain committed, with the leadership stating that the strength of the PDP lies not in media narratives or temporary political realignments, but in the steadfastness and loyalty of its members.

The statement further encouraged anyone who had been misled into thinking the PDP was part of any merger or coalition to reconsider and return to the fold.

“The PDP is more than a political party; it is a symbol of hope, democracy, and purposeful leadership,” the leaders asserted, adding that the party’s organizational structure remains fully functional across all 203 wards and 18 local government areas of the state.

The statement was endorsed by Agboola Ajayi himself, alongside key PDP figures including Senator Bode Olajumoke, Eddy Olafeso (both Board of Trustees members), Debo Ologunagba (National Publicity Secretary), Clement Faboyede (NEC member), Olajide Oguntodu (Minority Leader, Ondo State House of Assembly), Ladi Omotehinse (Chairman, PDP LG Chairmen Forum), Bakkita Bello (State Caretaker Committee Chairman), and Oluseye Olujimi (Secretary, State Caretaker Committee).
