The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has expressed profound grief over the passing of former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Benjamin Elue, describing his death as a monumental loss to the Niger Delta region and Nigeria at large.

In a formal letter dated January 2, 2026, addressed to the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, and sent to our correspondent, PANDEF’s National Chairman, Godknows Boladei Igali, conveyed the condolences of the group’s Board of Trustees and National Executive Council.

According to the forum, news of Chief Elue’s passing was received with shock and deep sadness. While acknowledging that he lived to the age of 85, PANDEF noted that his death remains painful in view of his enduring contributions to governance and public service.

Reflecting on his legacy, the group described Elue as a man of integrity, humility, diligence, and deep faith, whose conduct in both private and public life exemplified admirable statesmanship.

The statement also recalled his tenure as Deputy Governor during the administration of former Delta State Governor, James Ibori, noting that his steady support and stabilizing influence contributed significantly to political cohesion and socio-economic development in the state.

PANDEF further observed that Elue’s maturity and measured leadership style resonated beyond Delta State, earning him respect across the wider Niger Delta and the country.

Describing his death as the end of an era in Delta politics, the forum stated that the South-South geopolitical zone has lost one of its most distinguished sons.

While mourning his passing, PANDEF expressed comfort in faith, citing the biblical assurance in 2 Corinthians 5:8 that “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”

The group extended its heartfelt sympathies to the Elue family, the people of Aniocha North Local Government Area, and the entire Delta State community, praying for the peaceful repose of the elder statesman’s soul as tributes continue to pour in from across the region in honour of his service and legacy.
