As Nigeria celebrates Democracy Day today, the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has issued a stirring message of appreciation and encouragement to the governors and people of the South-South region, highlighting notable strides in governance, infrastructure, and social development.
In a press statement personally signed by Ambassador Dr. Godknows Boladei Igali, OON, National Chairman of PANDEF, the influential regional group praised the governors for their “commendable performance in governance” and reaffirmed its commitment to the unity, peace, and development of the Niger Delta.
PANDEF singled out Governor Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Governor Prince Bassey Otu (Cross River), Governor Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), and Governor Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers) for their “unwavering commitment to infrastructural development,” citing major projects such as road constructions, bridge expansions, urban renewal initiatives, agricultural development, and port facility upgrades.
The forum also acknowledged the contributions of Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa, particularly since his return to office, and Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, whose recent efforts were described as “equally momentous.”
“Combined, these efforts are significantly enhancing connectivity between our people, fostering regional integration, and laying a solid foundation for sustained economic growth,” PANDEF stated.
Beyond physical infrastructure, PANDEF applauded the governors’ focus on social welfare, especially in the sectors of healthcare, education, and civil service welfare. According to the statement, these policies are producing “tangible improvements” in the lives of citizens across the region.

The forum observed that if the current trajectory is sustained, the South-South region is poised to set national benchmarks and serve as a model for other geopolitical zones in Nigeria.
Looking ahead, PANDEF urged the governors not to rest on their laurels. It advocated for renewed inter-state collaboration under the BRACED Commission, as well as through bilateral support mechanisms, to fully transform the region into a cohesive economic corridor.
“With our eyes on the ball, we should remain optimistic that the South-South region will continue on this path of growth and emerge as a beacon of hope, progress, and development,” the statement added.
PANDEF also called on the citizens, traditional rulers, elders, and community leaders to sustain the momentum through support, cooperation, and prayers, noting that the region’s progress depends on grassroots participation and unity.
While acknowledging ongoing progress, PANDEF expressed deep concern over the “unfortunate ongoing political crisis and democratic erosion in Rivers State.” The forum reaffirmed its commitment to peace, stability, and dialogue, expressing hope that the state will “soon be free.”
“This is the indispensable foundation upon which more meaningful development can thrive,” PANDEF noted.
Concluding the Democracy Day message, Ambassador Igali congratulated the people of the South-South and Nigerians at large, expressing hope for a united, prosperous, and democratic Nigeria.
