Human rights crusader and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has issued a thunderous warning to Nigerians that is is only a people’s revolution can rescue the country, not another round of military tyranny.

Sowore, speaking with unrestrained force during an interview with News Central on Thursday, declared that military rule is a greater curse than the current rotten civilian order, revealing that a coup plot had secretly brewed inside the Nigerian Army as far back as 2024.

It’s not a rumour. There was a coup plot and people were rounded up,” Sowore said flatly.

The revelation came from SaharaReporters, a newspaper I founded, and you know their reaction. They sponsored trolls and attacked everyone who revealed this.”

According to him, the #EndBadGovernance protests that rocked the country in 2024 triggered panic within the corridors of power after security agencies linked the unrest to growing dissent within the military.

He said authorities went after protesters savagely because they already knew “some officers were plotting to overthrow the government.”

Sowore added that intelligence operatives became more paranoid after spotting Russian flags at protest scenes — an image the regime interpreted as a symbol of foreign-backed rebellion.

“A lot of them are disgruntled officers in the Nigerian Army who felt that things are not going the way they should,” he said. “But let me make it very clear, I can never support military rule again.”

Despite confirming the existence of coup plots, Sowore rejected any return to the barracks, insisting that the military and the politicians are two sides of the same corrupt coin.

I’ve seen the worst military rule in my lifetime,” he roared. “Nobody can come and tell me, fellow Nigeria, that we know things are wrong. These military guys that are planning to take over, that are planning coup, will be worse than the civilians we have.”

He declared that the only legitimate path forward is a national uprising, a revolution driven by the Nigerian people themselves.

What we should do, and I’ve said this that anybody who loves Nigeria, it’s all of us to take on the system at once. After revolution, we get another government.”

Sowore accused senior army officers and generals of deliberately feeding the chaos and bloodshed that define Nigeria’s insecurity.

All these army generals we’re seeing, colonels a lot, they’re the one reason why there’s insecurity in the country,” he fumed.

With his trademark audacity, Sowore warned that the real danger to Nigeria isn’t just corruption or bad governance, it’s the people’s silence.

Revolution is not a crime,” he thundered. “It is the last hope of a nation that’s been betrayed by every institution.”
