Three operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, were injured during a shootout with suspected kidnappers who had abducted seven farmers.
The farmers were reportedly kidnapped while harvesting palm fruits on Saturday in Itaogbolu, located in Akure North Local Government Area. The abductors later contacted the victims’ families on Sunday evening, demanding a ransom of ₦100 million for their release.
State Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, revealed the development on Wednesday in Akure. He said the armed assailants opened fire on the operatives once they realized they were being pursued.
Although no deaths occurred, Adeleye confirmed that three officers sustained serious injuries and had been hospitalized as a result.
“We caught up with them on Tuesday, but they ambushed us with gunfire, leaving three of my men badly injured. They were nearly killed,” he stated.
Adeleye added that the search effort is ongoing, and operatives are stationed in the forest, even spending the night there, to ensure the safe return of the hostages.
“With God’s help, we are confident that the victims will be rescued,” he assured.
