Ondo State sports team pledges to make Aiyedatiwa proud

Sunday Fagite, General Manager of the Ondo State Sports Council, has expressed confidence that the state’s team at the 8th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, will perform well in their events, reflecting their gratitude for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s support. The team, which arrived in Asaba on Tuesday, will compete in 14 sports over the 10-day event.

Fagite encouraged the athletes to view the tournament as an opportunity to showcase their talents and bring pride to Ondo State. He praised the governor for his commitment to sports and emphasized the team’s goal to honor his support.

Before the team left Akure, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, urged them to be exemplary representatives of the state, wishing them success and safe return with medals.

The opening ceremony of the games is set for Wednesday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba. Solomon Ogba, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, noted that the ceremony will feature Delta State’s rich traditions and performances by top musicians to entertain the athletes and visitors.

The 8th National Youth Games, which began on September 9 and will conclude on September 19, is hosted by Delta State following its hosting of the 7th edition in 2023. The event has attracted over 5,000 athletes from various states competing for medals.
