Ondo State Government Pays N634 Million Waec Fees For Public Schools

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has approved N634 million to cover the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) fees for students in public secondary schools for the 2024/2025 academic year.

This was revealed in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ebenezer Adeniyan, on Friday in Akure.

The initiative is aimed at easing the financial strain on parents and guardians, with the fees covering 23,048 students who successfully passed the Joint Senior Secondary School II Promotion Examination organized by the state’s Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology.

The statement highlighted that this support has been a significant relief for parents and stakeholders, especially amidst current economic challenges. It also emphasized that the WASSCE is a vital academic milestone for students, opening doors to higher education and professional opportunities.

By covering the registration fees annually, the state government ensures that all qualified candidates, regardless of their socio-economic status, can participate in the examination. This initiative promotes equal access to education and reduces disparities among students from different backgrounds.

The statement further reiterated the governor’s commitment to funding WASSCE registration, in line with his administration’s education policy.
