Ahead of the November 16 governorship election in Ondo State, numerous members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This wave of defections follows a similar move by PDP figures, including former Ondo PDP Women Leader Mrs. Esther Ebiwonjumi, who recently joined the APC.

The latest defections were led by Dr. Akinsola Jimoh. At a reception in Igbotako, Okitipupa Local Government Area, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Alhaji Amidu Takuro, welcomed the new members and assured them of full support and recognition within the APC. The governor expressed confidence that these new members would enhance the party’s strength and urged voters to support APC in the upcoming election as a testament to his administration’s achievements.

Governor Aiyedatiwa praised Dr. Jimoh for leading the defections without any form of inducement, acknowledging his leadership and grassroots influence. He commended Jimoh for joining the “winning team” and stressed the value of their contributions to the APC.

Dr. Akinsola Jimoh, who previously ran for the House of Assembly as a PDP candidate, stated that his decision to join the APC was influenced by Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership. Jimoh pledged to mobilize resources to secure a significant victory for the APC in the upcoming election.

APC Chairman for Okitipupa LGA, Mr. Igbekele Akinriwa, highlighted that the addition of Jimoh and his supporters would strengthen the APC’s position in the area. He encouraged all party members to stay active and engaged to ensure the party’s success in the governorship race
