The Ondo State Magistrate Court in Akure has sentenced Olushola Olatunde to 21 years in prison for stealing items from various churches. Olatunde was arrested by the state police on December 8 and 24, 2024, for stealing items, including money, a public address system, and iron rods, valued at N1,340,900, from the Revelation of God Miracle Church.
He was charged with six counts of theft and illegal entry and pleaded guilty. The prosecution, led by D.S. Msonter-Shagba, revealed that Olatunde committed the crimes between December 24, 2024, and January 8, 2025, at various locations in Akure. On December 24, Olatunde broke into the Revelation of God Miracle Church, stealing a 16-channel audio mixer worth N250,000 and a public address system valued at N250,000. Later that day, he also stole items from the Garden of Faith Church, including an amplifier, a generator, two iron rods, and a tithe box, totaling N534,600.
Additionally, Olatunde was accused of stealing 33 bags of cement worth N306,900 from Shasha Market on the same day. The total value of the stolen items amounted to N1,340,900.
The magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, sentenced Olatunde to four years in prison for each of the first, second, third, fifth, and sixth counts, and one year for the fourth count, with the sentences running concurrently. This means Olatunde will serve a total of four years in prison without the option of a fine.
