A 32-year-old man, Sunday Abilewa, has been remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre after being charged with murdering his 68-year-old father, Abu Abilewa, in Akure, Ondo State. The incident occurred on December 31, 2024, at the father’s home in Isua Akoko, Akoko South East Local Council. Abilewa allegedly killed his father by strangling him following a disagreement over the father’s refusal to buy him a motorcycle.

The prosecutor, Inspector Abdulateef Suleiman, stated that the offense violated Section 316 of the Criminal Code, punishable under Section 319 of the Ondo State Criminal Code. He requested the court to remand the defendant in custody until advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is received.
Magistrate Mrs. F.A. Akinboboye adjourned the case to February 25, 2025, for further mention, and ordered that Abilewa remain in custody pending the DPP’s advice.
