Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has expressed enthusiasm over the commencement of oil exploration in the state by Sahara Energy, following the company’s recent licensing by the Federal Government.
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has granted Sahara Energy the rights to manage two oil fields—PPL 270 and PPL 271—located in the riverine communities of Ilaje Local Government Area.
During a meeting with the Sahara Energy management board at his office in Akure, Governor Aiyedatiwa assured the company of the state’s full support to ensure smooth operations. He emphasized the state government’s commitment to creating an investor-friendly environment and maintaining security.
“Ondo State is fortunate at this time,” the governor remarked. “Although licenses are issued by the Federal Government, we assure you of our full support to ensure your activities flourish.”
The governor also appealed to host communities to cooperate with the company for mutual benefits.
Speaking on behalf of Sahara Energy, the Chairman of the Board, Engr. Funsho Kupolokun, described the meeting as a critical step toward launching their operations. Kupolokun, a former Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and an indigene of Ondo State, expressed appreciation for the governor’s commitment to fostering an investment-friendly climate.
> “Before commencing operations, we seek the governor’s permission and blessings to ensure a smooth working relationship with the state,” Kupolokun said.
He assured that Sahara Energy would comply with all state regulations and contribute to the economic development of the region.
Present at the meeting were the Ondo State Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami; Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa; Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Philips; and the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, SAN.
