Ondo State Government, through the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), has commenced preparations for the construction of the 4.72km third phase of the Igbokoda/Ugbo-Nla/Aiyetoro Road project.

The vision to construct roads linking the riverine areas of the oil-rich local government was first conceived by the late sage and former governor, Chief Adebayo Adefarati, in 2000. Subsequent administrations, including that of Dr. Olusegun Agagu, advanced the project by awarding contracts that connected several previously inaccessible communities to Igbokoda, the headquarters of Ilaje Local Government.

The third phase of the road project will extend from Ugbo-Nla to Aiyetoro, linking several major seaside communities. In line with this, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration has awarded contracts for feasibility studies, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), soil testing, and a geophysics survey to reputable consultants.

One of the contractors, EMINAD NIG LTD, has already mobilized to the site to conduct the soil test, which will provide crucial data on the terrain. The test will also determine the required bridge length needed to cross the river between Ugbo-Nla and Erunona.

During an inspection tour of the ongoing project, the Secretary of OSOPADEC, Princess Abike Bayo-Ilawole, highlighted the importance of the feasibility study, EIA, and soil test in ensuring the project’s durability and long-term success.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is dedicated to bringing this project to completion. He wants our people to see tangible progress, not just plans on paper,” she stated.

Upon completion, the road will significantly enhance accessibility, boost economic activities, and unlock tourism opportunities for riverine communities in Ondo State.

The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Strategic Communication, Allen Sowore, Esq., confirmed the administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure in the region.
