The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cautioned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) risks plunging into fresh internal crisis if it considers re-admitting former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, into its fold.
Speaking during a political gathering, Wike declared:
“If you want to destroy this party (PDP), dare to bring in Peter Obi.”
The former Rivers State governor, who has remained a vocal figure on issues concerning the PDP’s future, stressed that Obi’s return would destabilize the party’s structure and undermine existing leadership arrangements.
Wike’s remarks come amid speculations of high-level talks within opposition circles on possible alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections. His warning highlights the deep-seated divisions within the PDP and the sensitive nature of political realignments as the race for power intensifies.
So far, neither the PDP leadership nor Peter Obi has publicly responded to Wike’s comments.
