A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Lagos State has alleged that she is facing pressure from NYSC officials after sharing a viral video expressing frustration over the rising cost of living in Nigeria.
The corps member, who goes by @talktoraye on TikTok, appeared in the video visibly distressed, lamenting the increasing prices of basic goods and services. She questioned the government’s response to inflation, stating that the hardship has become unbearable for many Nigerians.
“If more people speak up about what we are going through, maybe there will be changes in governance,” she remarked.
She also voiced concerns about the inadequacy of the NYSC monthly allowance, which she claimed barely covers essential expenses. According to her, everyday costs—including transportation, electricity bills, and food; have become unsustainable, leaving corps members struggling financially.
Following the video’s widespread circulation, she disclosed that she had been contacted by NYSC officials, who warned her against making political statements online.
The incident has sparked public debate, with many Nigerians questioning whether corps members should be restricted from sharing their opinions on national issues.
