The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has urged corps members to respect local customs, remain committed to their duties and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s socio-economic growth.

Nafiu gave the charge while addressing 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream One corps members at the NYSC orientation camps in Ogun and Oyo States, according to a statement shared on the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters’ official X handle on Saturday.

He commended the corps members for answering the call to national service and encouraged them to approach their service year with discipline, creativity and a strong sense of responsibility.

The NYSC Director General also stressed the importance of prudent financial management, noting that sound financial habits could provide support during and after the service year.

“When you are posted to your place of primary assignment, respect their rules, be punctual, be resourceful and learn the culture of the organisation you are posted to,” Nafiu said.

At the Ogun State orientation camp, the NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Olayinka Nasamu, disclosed that 3,341 corps members had been registered, including 975 initially deployed to Lagos State. She praised their conduct, saying they had adapted well to the regimented camp life, while noting that camp officials were discharging their duties with a high level of synergy.

In Oyo State, the NYSC Coordinator, Mr Kayode Ola Peters, reported that 3,068 corps members had completed registration. He noted that participants demonstrated commendable character, actively engaged in camp activities and showed readiness to contribute to national development across various sectors.

The NYSC earlier announced that the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream I Orientation Course commenced nationwide on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, across all 37 orientation camps.

According to the scheme, camp registration for corps members took place from Wednesday, January 21, to midnight on Friday, January 23, 2026. The swearing-in ceremony was held on Friday, January 23, while the closing ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
