Akure — Tension is rising in Ondo State following the unexplained disappearance of two students from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), who have been missing for over two weeks.
The missing students have been identified as Andrel Okah, a 200-level student in the Department of History and International Studies (Faculty of Arts), and John Abba, a 200-level student in the Department of Economics (Faculty of Agriculture).
According to a fellow student who gave his name as Ajibola, both students have been absent from classes and other academic activities, raising alarm among their peers.
“For more than two weeks, we haven’t seen them on campus or in class. Everyone is worried and confused,” Ajibola told reporters. “We’ve tried calling their phones several times, but none of the lines are going through.”
He noted that while the duo were known to be close friends, their simultaneous disappearance has triggered fears, including the possibility of abduction.
“We’ve reported the situation to the school authorities and the police, but there hasn’t been any real development or concrete action,” Ajibola added. “The school is asking us to stay calm and even suggested they might be on vacation. But the student body is growing restless—we’re seriously concerned.”
Efforts to reach the university’s spokesperson, Mr. Victor Akinpelumi, were unsuccessful. However, a senior member of the institution’s management, speaking anonymously, confirmed that the matter has been reported to the police.
The official suggested that the university is exploring multiple angles regarding the disappearance, stating, “We are aware of the situation and are in communication with security agencies. There are concerns that the circumstances around the case may involve other campus-related issues, and we’re working with the police to uncover the facts.”
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed that an investigation is ongoing into the matter.
