NNPP Petitions CJN Over Ondo Transition Committees Appointment

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has petitioned the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, regarding the appointment of transition committees by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State’s 18 local governments and 33 council development areas. The NNPP argues that these appointments violate a recent Supreme Court judgment affirming local governments’ right to receive direct monthly allocations from the federation account and a June 20 ruling by Justice A.O Adebusuoye of the Ondo High Court.

In response, the Attorney General of Ondo State, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, defended the appointments as within Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s constitutional powers to ensure seamless governance. Ajulo emphasized that the Supreme Court ruling did not invalidate the governor’s executive powers.

The NNPP, however, disagrees, describing the appointments as misconduct and disobedience to court judgments. They also demand that Ajulo be stripped of his Senior Advocate of Nigeria title for his actions.
