NLC outcries Ajero’s Detention
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has accused security forces of detaining its President, Joe Ajaero, and forcibly taking him away without a warrant. Earlier today, Vanguard reported Ajaero’s arrest at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. In response, the NLC has alerted its affiliates, state councils, and Nigerian workers, urging them to stay vigilant.
Benson Upah, the NLC’s Head of Media/Information, condemned the arrest as a clear sign of the Nigerian government’s lawlessness and its attempt to suppress dissenting voices. The NLC’s statement, titled “COMRADE JOE AJAERO: PRESIDENT OF THE NIGERIA LABOUR CONGRESS (NLC) HAS BEEN DETAINED BY THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT,” details that Ajaero was seized by state agents while en route to the UK to attend the Trade Union Congress (TUC) event. At this global gathering, he was scheduled to represent Nigerian workers and discuss crucial issues related to workers’ rights, social justice, and economic fairness.
