President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to ongoing reforms, emphasizing that they will benefit the entire African continent. During a State Dinner at the Palais des Elysées in Paris, hosted by the French government, President Tinubu praised the strong relationship between Nigeria and France and assured President Emmanuel Macron that there was no turning back on the reforms his government has initiated.

Tinubu urged both Nigerian and French citizens to maintain the positive and collaborative relationship between their nations. He expressed that Africa must focus on building a continent that connects with its people, values them, and prioritizes development.

He said, “Apart from the economic opportunities and the significance of Nigeria to Europe, the United States, and Africa, there is confidence that you will remember who we are. You welcome investment from our friends and brothers, as seen with figures like Aliko Dangote, Aig Imoukhuede, and Tony Elumelu. You even inquired about Mike Adenuga earlier today,” he noted.

The President conveyed his belief in a brighter future for improved relations with France. “This is an exciting time for all of us. I am immensely proud to be the President of Nigeria at this pivotal time, with people who are motivated and committed to turning the page from past failures and creating a future that our children and grandchildren can embrace and take pride in,” he said.

President Tinubu stressed that the economic reforms underway in Nigeria would enhance Africa’s economic outlook. “As you have mentioned, we are undertaking significant reforms, and there is no turning back. It is essential for the continent that we do not dwell on the past. We must face the future with commitment, optimism, and the courage of our founding fathers,” he added.

President Macron, in his response, acknowledged Nigeria’s prominent role in Africa, describing it as a ‘big brother’ to the continent. He lauded the resilience and intelligence of Nigerians, mentioning Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka and musician Femi Kuti as examples of the country’s global influence.

“Nigeria is a powerful nation with many talented young individuals. Many Nigerians excel in their fields. You overcame military rule and gained freedom. President Tinubu transformed Lagos’ economy, and now you are embarking on national transformation,” he stated.

Macron also pointed out that French investments in Nigeria have been longstanding, particularly in sectors like oil and gas, construction, and food security. He highlighted further opportunities in solid minerals, emerging technologies, and the film industry.

“Nigeria and France will continue to lead and work together to shape a brighter future,” President Macron concluded.
