Widespread protests have broken out across several countries following reports of the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in what demonstrators describe as U.S.–Israeli military strikes.
In Nigeria, members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) took to the streets in Niger State, condemning the reported killing and demanding accountability.
Protesters waved Iranian flags and chanted slogans including, “Freedom to Iran, death to America,” as tensions mounted in parts of the state.
The demonstrations in Nigeria are part of a broader wave of unrest spreading beyond the Middle East. In Pakistan, clashes reportedly turned deadly in Karachi, where at least nine people were killed during confrontations outside the United States Consulate General Karachi.
Protesters there denounced both Washington and Tel Aviv, accusing them of orchestrating the strike.
Public outrage has also been recorded in Iraq and India, where demonstrators marched in solidarity with Iran, condemning what they described as foreign aggression.
Crowds in several cities carried placards criticizing the United States and Israel, while calling for justice and retaliation.
Tehran has responded with strong rhetoric. Iranian authorities have declared 40 days of national mourning alongside a seven-day public holiday.
Officials have vowed retaliation, signaling the potential for further escalation in an already fragile geopolitical climate.
While the United States and Israel have faced accusations of carrying out the attack, neither government has released detailed public statements confirming involvement at the time of reporting.
Meanwhile, some international leaders are urging restraint, warning that further escalation could destabilize the region and spark broader conflict.
