Urgent Plea for Essential Services and Infrastructural Development in Agbedigbaran Community.

The Niger Delta Progressive Youth Leadership Foundation (ND-PYLF) has made a passionate plea to Hon. Donald K. Ojogo, House of Representatives member for Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency, urging him to intervene in addressing critical needs within the Agbedigbaran community.

Chief Diplomat Ogomugo Marbo, The President of the Niger Delta Youth Progressive Leadership Foundation (ND-PYLF) made the call a week after an exclusive report by Arogbo-Ibe Voice Reporters, on the dauntingly devastating condition of living of residents in the community.

It will be recalled that during the first quarter of this year, the Arogbo-Ibe Voice Reporters sent a team of correspondents and made a documentary on the living condition of people in the community. The report was made available to relevant agencies, stakeholders and the government.

However, months after the documentary, government and stakeholders are yet to intervene. ND-PYLF- a voice to the voiceless, found out that

the community though a fishing hub and a major producer of “local gin” otherwise known as “Ogogoro”, has been bedeviled with unattended challenges for decades.

The foundation highlights several key areas where the community requires immediate support to improve living conditions and promote sustainable development.

Provision of Potable Water.

The ND-PYLF has emphasised the dire need for a reliable source of clean and safe drinking water in Agbedigbaran. The current lack of potable water poses significant health risks to residents, leading to the prevalence of waterborne diseases. The foundation is appealing to Hon. Ojogo to facilitate the provision of modern water facilities to ensure that every member of the community has access to clean water.

Access to Grants and Loans

Economic empowerment is another critical area of concern for the Agbedigbaran community. The ND-PYLF is requesting that Hon. Ojogo advocates for the availability of grants and loans to support local entrepreneurs and small businesses. These financial resources are essential for fostering economic growth, reducing unemployment, and improving the overall standard of living in the community.

  Construction of a Footbridge

The foundation has also highlighted the urgent need for the construction of a footbridge in Agbedigbaran. The absence of a footbridge has made it difficult for residents to traverse the community, particularly during the rainy season when flooding is prevalent. A footbridge would not only enhance mobility but also ensure the safety of the community members, especially children and the elderly.

Clearing of Major River from Water Hyacinth Infestation

Lastly, the ND-PYLF has called attention to the infestation of the major river in Agbedigbaran by water hyacinths. This invasive plant species has severely impacted the river’s ecosystem, hindering fishing activities and contributing obstruction of movement. The foundation is urging Hon. Ojogo to spearhead efforts to clear the river of this infestation, thereby restoring its natural flow and supporting the livelihoods of those who depend on it.

A Call for Immediate Action

The Niger Delta Progressive Youth Leadership Foundation stresses the urgency of these interventions, pointing out that the well-being of the Agbedigbaran community hinges on the swift and effective response from the government and relevant stakeholders like Hon. Donald. By addressing these critical needs, Hon. Donald K. Ojogo can make a significant positive impact on the lives of Agbedigbaran residents and contribute to the broader development goals of the Niger Delta region.
