NDDC-NASSCO partner to improve health sector in the Niger delta
The National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO) has formed a strategic partnership with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to enhance healthcare access and financial protection for vulnerable populations in the Niger Delta region. This collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to utilize the National Social Register to connect one million people across the nine NDDC states with essential health and social services.
NASSCO’s National Coordinator, Ms. Funmi Olotu, highlighted the initiative’s significance, stating it aligns with NASSCO’s mission to support vulnerable households and is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to eliminate poverty and assist the disadvantaged in Nigeria.
The partnership will see NASSCO collaborating with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to identify impoverished households in rural areas, register them in the National Social Register, and link them to vital healthcare, education, and other services.
Olotu noted that the initiative supports critical national programs, including the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the National Health Sector Renewal Investment Programme (NHSRIP), which seeks to broaden healthcare access nationwide.
Mr. Ben Nkechika, an NDDC consultant, remarked that this initiative will significantly impact by ensuring essential services, including healthcare, reach the most vulnerable in the Niger Delta, thereby enhancing their quality of life.
This partnership underscores NASSCO’s commitment to collaborating with key stakeholders to implement social interventions that uplift vulnerable households and support Nigeria’s broader development objectives.
