NDDC committed to improving economic growth in the Niger delta
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has reiterated its commitment to fostering economic growth in the Niger Delta region through targeted empowerment initiatives. During a recent workshop at Axari Hotel in Calabar focused on establishing the Niger Delta Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Trade, Mines and Agriculture (NDCCITMA), Managing Director Chief Samuel Ogbuku emphasized this dedication.
Represented by Cross River State NDDC Commissioner Rt. Hon. Orok Duke, Chief Ogbuku explained that NDCCITMA aims to enhance the economic environment by providing vital support to businesses and entrepreneurs who struggle with the demands of traditional banks and lending institutions. He highlighted the initiative’s goal of unlocking the region’s economic potential and promoting sustainable development.
“The NDCCITMA initiative is poised to drive significant changes in transport, manufacturing, mining, and agriculture,” he stated, noting that the chamber will be essential for creating a conducive atmosphere for business success.
Chief Ogbuku assured stakeholders that NDDC, through NDCCITMA, is committed to advancing socioeconomic development with a focus on inclusivity and grassroots enhancement.
Consultant Chief Solomon Edebiri added that NDCCITMA reflects NDDC’s intent to facilitate grassroots development. He emphasized that the chamber would improve business operations and bolster the overall economy of the Niger Delta. Edebiri also discussed the chamber’s benefits, highlighting access to capacity-building programs like training, internships, and apprenticeships, and promoting collaboration among members.
“We are introducing new business practices and adopting global standards to establish the Niger Delta as a hub of economic excellence. Membership is available to entrepreneurs from various sectors, including oil and gas, marine, agriculture, mining, and energy,” he said.
Victor Antai, Executive Director of Projects at NDDC, noted that NDCCITMA aims to connect micro and macro enterprises, enhancing their competitiveness.
