Navy seizes illegal refining sites within Niger delta
The Nigerian Navy reported significant achievements in its fight against crude oil theft under Operation DELTA SANITY, including the destruction of illegal refining sites in the Niger Delta.
In a statement by Commodore Adams Aliyu, Director of Information, the Navy detailed several operations: On August 29, they seized seven large Cotonou boats and two fiber boats manned by armed oil thieves at an illegal loading site near Botokiri in Bayelsa State. On August 31, they arrested six suspects with 109 sacks of illicitly refined petroleum products, four fiber boats, and two wooden boats in Bayelsa State.
On September 1, two wooden boats and 328 sacks of illegally refined Automated Gas Oil were confiscated at Otuogori community riverbank, also in Bayelsa State. The following day, 35 sacks of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil were seized in a wooden boat at Gbaraun in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The statement highlighted that these successes demonstrate the effectiveness of Operation DELTA SANITY and the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to combating crude oil theft and improving oil production in Nigeria’s maritime areas.
