A Magistrate Court sitting in Sabo, Yaba, Lagos, has discharged and acquitted popular singer Abdulazeez Fashola, known as Naira Marley, along with his associates, Samson Balogun Eletu (Sam Larry), Owodunni Ibrahim (Primeboy), and Mohbad’s manager, Opere Babatunde, in connection with the death of singer Aloba Oladimeji IleriOluwa, popularly known as Mohbad.

Delivering the ruling, Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje stated that the court had implemented the legal advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), which found that the accused individuals had no case to answer regarding Mohbad’s demise.

However, the DPP has recommended prosecution for the auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, who treated the late singer, and one of Mohbad’s friends, Ayobami Sadiq. They will face charges of reckless and negligent acts under Section 251 (e) of the Criminal Law, Ch C.17, Vol.3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015. Their trial is set to proceed at the Magistrate Court.

Mohbad passed away under controversial circumstances on September 12, 2023, sparking widespread public outcry and an official investigation into the cause of his death.
