Murder of 4 year old, man remanded in prison

A 4-year-old toddler, was murdered at her home on Orba Road in the Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, according to confirmation from the Enugu State Police Command. Chukwuemeka Nweke, 30, was arrested in connection with the crime, according to a statement released by the Command and made available through its spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe.

The statement said that after receiving a distress call alleging that Nweke had slashed the victim’s throat with a knife while she was sleeping, police officers assigned to the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad of the Command’s Nsukka Sector detained Nweke.

According to the preliminary inquiry, the suspect lives in the aforementioned complex with the child’s parents and other family members, however he is originally from Umuagu-Ozalla in the Nkanu West Local Government Area. Upon entering the victim’s apartment, he noticed the defenseless child sleeping and made an attempt to stab her in the throat after some other neighbors opposed him and managed to flee. This came about when the child’s mother and her other kids made their getaway.

The statement further stated that following the conclusion of the investigations, the suspect who was also detained with charms would be charged. As he expressed his condolences to the victim’s family, Kanayo Uzuegbu, the state commissioner of police, promised that the victim will receive justice in a timely manner. In order to prevent such occurrences, he also exhorted the locals to constantly watch the way their neighbors behave.
