MTN and Airtel Line Blocks Not Protest-Related – Ex Aide says

Bashir Ahmad, a former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has stated that telecommunications companies did not block lines due to upcoming protests. On Sunday, numerous social media users reported their lines being blocked by MTN and Airtel. Ahmad later posted on X that a senior government official clarified the issue was unrelated to the protests. The line blocks were due to discrepancies between National Identification Number (NIN) details and SIM registration information, such as mismatched names or dates of birth. The official also mentioned that MTN and Airtel have notified affected users via SMS, advising them to visit their offices or use the self-service portal to correct their NIN details.
